ID Grand Rounds (1-6-15) Case 1

Description: 

6 yo boy develops lower extremity weakness, abdominal pain, 1 episode of vomitting, headache and fever; @day 2, treated for presumed constipation.  By day 5, he is having difficulty walking-off balance, difficulty urinating and increased irritability.

ID Grand Rounds 1-6-15 Case 2

Description: 

33 yo male in end-stage renal disease is on peritoneal dialysis.  H/O renal transplant.  Presents with nausea, vomitting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain x2 days; frebrile.  Even after removal of PD catheter, antibiotics and antifungals, illness persists over 6 weeks.  Why?

54 yo female with active crack cocaine nasal use and depression; presented with earlobe and lower extremity acute dark purple lesions that had gotten progressively worse and ulcerated over last 5 days.

Description: 

23 y/old male.  Presented for an elective left knee surgery due to cartiledge damage sustained from playing basketball.  He underwent an osteochondral allograft procedure.  He received cartiledge from a donor in an attempt to improve mobility of the left knee and reduce pain in that area.
