Akshay Gupte, MBBS, MPH

Akshay Gupte, MBBS, MSPH, is a doctoral student in the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH). His research interests include exploring the impact of infectious diseases on lung health of populations and exploring approaches to host directed therapies to limit lung injury in TB.

As part of his doctoral research, Akshay is leading a Indo-US collaborative study aimed at exploring the impact of TB disease—alone and in combination with HIV and diabetes mellitus—on pulmonary impairment and risk of chronic lung diseases in India. Akshay is currently a co-investigator of C-TRIUMPH, a multi-center cohort study in India aiming to address key knowledge gaps in TB epidemiology and to inform effective preventive and treatment strategies.

Akshay is a 2017 Fogarty Fellow and a 2017 recipient of the Arthur M. Dannenberg, Jr., Award. He completed his medical training in India at Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, received a Master of Science in Public Health from JHSPH, and has previously worked as a medical officer in rural and urban settings.
