Summary:
Moodle, an acronym for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment, is an open-source learning management system (LMS), for producing Internet-based courses and web sites. Many of the CCGHE partners find this platform highly adaptable and cost-effective making this the platform of choice for purposes of sustainability.

This e-learning course (Moodle Basics) provides participants with a basic understanding of the structure and functionality of Moodle. By the end of the course, participants understand the basic features of Moodle, demonstrate these skills in the creation of a basic course in Moodle, and explore the Moodle community of users. Participants learn Moodle by using Moodle.

The online course was developed to train both IT administrators as well as faculty how to use the Moodle platform for building distance learning capacity within the medical schools participating in the MEPI consortiums within Ethiopia and Uganda.  The course was first deployed in the summer of 2012 and has subsequently been deployed 2 additional times.

To increase reach and improve scalability, the course has been adapted and recreated in-country on the College of Health Sciences Moodle platform of both Addis Abbaba and Makerere Universities.
