Management of adult HIV/AIDS in Zambia

The need for in-depth clinical training about HIV care and treatment in Zambia is widely recognized. CCGHE and JHPIEGO, a Johns Hopkins affiliate with a country office in Lusaka, collaborated to develop a distance learning course entitled, "Management of Adult HIV in Zambia." The course was comprised of 22 lectures delivered by HIV experts from Johns Hopkins, JHPIEGO, University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka and the Ministry of Health. Topics included Epidemiology and Infection Prevention, Diagnosing and Initial Management, Clinical Manifestations of HIV Infection, and Antiretroviral Therapy. Course participants received CD-ROMs of the lectures and took pre- and post-course knowledge assessments online; Certificates of Achievement were awarded to those who scored 70% or better on the post-test. The course was offered three times between 2008-2009 with more than 800 particpants, including physicians, nurses, pharmicists, program managers and researchers.
