Rewa Kohli, MSc, PhD
Dr. Kohli is a trained Anthropologist with more than 25 years of experience in health research. She has worked in the fields of genetic disorders, development, communications, leprosy, and AIDS. Currently she is working as a Study Coordinator for the C-TRIUMPH study.
She has implemented research protocols that were funded by international agencies such as NIH, NIAIDS, WHO, SIDACTION, etc. She has also independently handled the studies that have been done efficiently within the prescribed timeline. She was the Principal Investigator of a study on “Knowledge and willingness to use rectal microbicides and oral PrEP by the men who have sex with men” funded by Indian Council of Medical Research. She was also the Principal Investigator of a study on development of international scales for QOL assessment sponsored by Service de Médecine Interne et de Maladies Infectieuses, Paris. She has undertaken a study to understand the perspectives of the family care providers while providing care to HIV positive persons.
She has the ability, skills, and experience of developing study concepts depending on the research questions, development of full proposal, implementation of projects, and networking with NGOs for the purpose of implementation of the project. She has been involved in the projects right from concept development stage, tool development, training interviewers, monitoring data collection, making mid-course evaluations, and integrating findings into the study implementation plan to ensure the highest quality data and the objectives of the study are attained. She was the Investigator on a number of international clinical drug and device trials (Condom Promotion Study, HPTN 034, HPTN 052, ACTG studies and MTN 005 study).
She implemented a study on “The Clinical Progression of HIV Infection,” which was sponsored by WHO. She initiated the assessment of quality of life (QOL) of HIV infected individuals for which she developed a psychometric instrument. The results of this QOL assessment were presented at the International Conference of the International Society of Quality of life Research (ISOQOL) in Prague. She has conducted formative research on the development and validation of scales in India. In the next phase, scales were developed for assessment of acceptability of microbicides. These scales were validated among 450 men and women, and were tested in another study that was conducted parallel to HPTN 059 clinical trial of 1% Tenofovir Gel. The results of the acceptability study were disseminated through two dissemination meetings, one for the researchers, policymakers, and the voluntary organization and the other for the study participants. She has a very good knowledge of the qualitative and quantitative methods used in social science research like IDI, KII, FGD. She has conducted studies using qualitative methods like focus group discussions, in-depth interviews and key informant interviews for a number of her studies.
She is a member of the Society of Quality of Life Research, and is a reviewer on a number of peer reviewed journals such as Journal of AIDS and Behavior, Journal of AIDS Care, International Journal of Social Work, and Annals of Medical and Health Sciences Research.
